Art from Wolf At The Door
The Wolf at the Door continues last year’s emphasis on simplicity, space, tranquillity and a warm welcome. A few chosen artists, calm, bright displays. A chance to browse, sit, and enjoy: house and garden are open. Siobhan of Table Brighton is back with superb refreshments.

In the garden, Andrew Jones’s magical, hypnotic kinetic sculptures and Si Uwins's nature-based wood sculpture are back. Also Penny May, whose ‘Big Fish’ stone carving sold last year to the Royal Fishmonger!

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Cobbin, with dreamlike Zen-inspired abstract paintings, and Antony Penrose of Farley's Farm: sculpture, books on art (for children), Lee Miller and the Surrealists.

Finally, Jill Tattersall (host) - paints, pigments, inks and dyes on handmade paper.

Extra events include book signings by Antony Penrose (6 May), 20 May (Neil Jenkins), Ian Williams.

Fay Green - Embassy Court
We welcome you to a new addition to the Hove Arts trail - the small but perfectly formed Studio 59 - in a light-filled space in a Victorian arts and crafts villa.
Curated by three artists, the work is complementary, and makes for an intriguing collection of prints and paintings and ceramics.
Paintings fill the walls with mysterious figures from old photos, evoking a sense of loss, a story of displacement and the distance of memories.
Ewa's abstract prints, delicate and precise, are experimental compositions that hint at a background in architecture.
And in the centre, Saya’s ceramic animal/human figures convey intriguing narratives, influenced by the Trickster mythologies.
We hope you enjoy the show. And, if you're lucky, you may be in time for home-baked treats with coffee.

Exhibiting artists:
Saya McNairn-Yanagi - ceramic sculpture
Dianka - painting and prints
Ewa Cobel - prints and ceramics

Art Noveau Triangular Teapot by Mary Penley
Venue 6: MARY PENLEY - Biscuit Studio
'Why Biscuit Studio?' The first firing a piece of clay work goes through is known as a 'bisque' firing. This turns it from raw clay into a porous ceramic in readiness for a glaze firing. 'Bisque' is the French word for Biscuit!

A warm welcome to Biscuit Studio. For 2017 I continue my love affair with making my signature triangular 'T'pots. For each one I make I ask the question ‘what if? What if I refined this? tried that? They continue to be inspired by fashion trends and however wacky, they instil a discipline of working with a set shape, understanding it but then seeing how far boundaries can be stretched, pushed, and pulled!  The learning process with this fascinating medium never diminishes. This year I am working mostly with high fired white porcelain and also black stoneware clay!
Pleating and the way fabric drapes fascinates me. Much of my work is hand built not using moulds or casting, so each piece is unique and cannot be replicated.

I also continue to be inspired by living in this beautiful scenery of coast and country.
So a range of work awaits your discerning eye.

Val Fawbert - City Retreat
Val Fawbert welcomes you to view a solo exhibition in her gallery and studio workshop within a walled city garden.

Hove based, Brighton born, contemporary palette knife artist Val Fawbert creates impressions on deep edged canvas using acrylics. While depicting city scenes in town and beside the sea. 'I try to capture the very essence of "that's Brighton" I guess!'
The process, skimming, scraping using the knife, creates simplicity of line for her figurative work. Energised by the cutting edge of the knife, movement of sculptural figures emerge, resulting in a kinetic experience for both artist and viewer, encouraging them to identify with the moment!
Spatial awareness is crucial to her composition, characters arriving and departing from the canvas! Economy of colour, restraint is often required with her identifiable  palette, producing leaden skies merging with the coastline.

Inlight Glass Fusion Studio/Gallery showcases a unique collection of high quality Kiln Formed Glass by Chantal Mesnard.

Initially trained in stained glass, Chantal has developed the many fused glass techniques she uses in her work by experimenting and recording her findings over a period of 16 years.
Her inspiration stems from her keen interest in exploring the relationship between colours, light and forms and combining the challenge of making technically demanding pieces with the intuitive right brain process.

She is also a firmly established workshop tutor, teaching the fundamentals of the fused glass process with a variety of inspiring techniques and helping students to tap into their creative pool as they realise their own designs.

Classes are run on a weekly basis throughout the year in this vibrant Hove studio.

Monuments by Tori Day - The Shed On The Beach
Three local painters, Charlie Day, Tori Day and Paul Tuppeny, collaborate in this unusual, small, and occasionally challenging venue.

Tori Day paints portraits of humble everyday objects from both the natural world and domestic settings and is particularly drawn to things that have lived a lot: the dented, scratched, chipped, rusty and careworn.

Charlie is inspired by both the East Sussex coastline and the seascapes of North Norfolk. The application of his paint is impasto and very gestural: he is concerned with how these brushstrokes and knife marks coalesce into an image.

Paul Tuppeny is both a painter and a sculptor, interested in the way that our species observes and evaluates itself through the medium of 'presented history'.
