Sue Penrose - Purple Dragonfly
Opening for the first time, Sue Penrose demonstrates the versatility of mosaic as a medium, showing work in situ in her home and garden. She is joined by an eclectic mix of established and new local artists:
Keith Pettit's finely executed box wood engravings are infused with passion for his native Sussex. His highly collectible prints draw you into a world of delicate running hares and idyllic rural scenes.
Making Marx Ceramics combine ancient traditions and techniques, alongside contemporary designs. Sarah’s work has a quiet presence, and a simplicity which invites a sense of curiosity and contemplation.
Elaine Partington’s metal work and jewellery finds inspiration in the Japanese aesthetic Wabi-Sabi, which sees beauty in understatement, rusticity and imperfection. Elaine strives to achieve the same spirit in her practice.
Mark Wilson paints evocative abstract and semi-abstract sea and landscapes in oil. Mark uses his own unique methods, from filler to rope and ground down slate to create beautiful texture in his work.

Val Fawbert
Val Fawbert welcomes you to view a solo exhibition in her gallery and studio workshop within a walled city garden.

Hove based, Brighton born, contemporary palette knife artist Val Fawbert creates impressions on deep edged canvas using acrylics. While depicting city scenes in town and beside the sea. 'I try to capture the very essence of "that's Brighton" I guess!'
The process, skimming, scraping using the knife, creates simplicity of line for her figurative work. Energised by the cutting edge of the knife, movement of sculptural figures emerge, resulting in a kinetic experience for both artist and viewer, encouraging them to identify with the moment!
Spatial awareness is crucial to her composition, characters arriving and departing from the canvas! Economy of colour, restraint is often required with her identifiable  palette, producing leaden skies merging with the coastline.

Mary Penley - On The Town - Triangular T-pot
I originally trained as a graphic, then a scenic designer for broadcast television. My love affair with clay began as a diversion from my television work and has continued ever since. I am continually learning and stimulated by the infinite possibilities and challenges this medium offers.

I produce both wheel thrown and hand built pieces for the Brighton and London market. I love working in earthenware using coloured slips, to produce fun vibrant pieces. I also enjoy the challenges of porcelain and seeing how far – and how thin - I can take this material! My fascination with texture and surface decoration, first explored as a graphic designer, is now characteristic of my work.

Workshops: I am fascinated by the healing properties that clay has to connect with people at a deep level when used in a contemplative way. Whether it is to be mindful of the present moment, to ease stress, or to unlock and acknowledge past experiences buried deep within us. Examples of this work are the ‘Prayer through Clay’ retreat workshops I run and lead for dioceses, parishes and retreat centres.

Where do you feel safest? In my room.

This interactive installation of work in a range of media has been created by young people in care and in the mental health system, through the long term Therapeutic Art Group run by Touched Theatre in partnership with Brighton and Hove Social Services and NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

In this strange, familiar place you will meet heroes and icons, witness talismans and protectors, share the fantastical and the mundane. Work has been created using stop motion and storytelling, sculpture, puppetry, photography and woodwork. We invite you to enter, take part, watch and play in our lovingly invented, recreated teenage bedroom.

Supported by BBC Children in Need and the Mental Wellbeing Innovation Fund, and shortlisted for a Children and Young People Now Award.

Ellis Sykes work is a feast of vibrant colours and dramatic expressions within her featured collection, 'The Mind'.

The collection consists of layered wooden faces; theatrically poignant and expressive in nature. Each piece illustrating the often isolated, invisible experience of Mental ill-Health, and questioning the controversial stigma surrounding the conditions.

Other works alongside the main collection of 'The Mind' will include the digital illustration series 'Insomnia', film work, media experimentation, and watercolour illustrations.
Colour psychology, light and shadow-play are all vital components of her three dimensional and two dimensional pieces.
